New Construction Under $470K: Northern Lexington Home Tour with Winston-Salem Access

I'm standing in a brand-new home that's never been lived in, and the primary bedroom has not one but two walk-in closets plus an accent wall that stops people mid-sentence. The address says Lexington, but the drive to downtown Winston-Salem is 20 to 25 minutes, both major hospitals are under 30 minutes, and the YWCA where I play pickleball is 20 minutes away. That's a drive I actually make, not one I pulled off a map.

This is 377 Linn Allen Drive, and it's listed at $469,900. You're getting 2,236 square feet, four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a main-level primary suite, nearly half an acre, a screened-in porch, a two-car garage, and no HOA. The lot is relatively flat and usable, the spaces are flexible, and you're in Davidson County, which may compare favorably on property taxes depending on your situation. I'm Kristen Brown, and I'm the listing agent. I've also helped clients build a custom version of this same home design from the ground up in Clemmons with Atlantic Builders, so I know what you're looking at and which questions you should be asking.

The biggest question about this house probably isn't the house. It's the word Lexington. I already know what some Winston-Salem buyers may be thinking, this sounds too far. But this home is on the northern Winston-Salem side of Lexington, and that can change the calculation. I lived on the southern end of Lexington for four years, and eventually that location felt too far from Winston-Salem for us. That's ultimately why we moved. But this part of Lexington is different. If a house in this location had been available when we were looking, we would have bought it.

Lexington (Northern Winston-Salem Side): Location, Access, and What You're Actually Getting

The address says Lexington, but the location is on the northern Winston-Salem side, and that changes the commute calculation. From 377 Linn Allen Drive, downtown Winston-Salem is approximately 20 to 25 minutes away. Both Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Novant Medical Center are under 30 minutes away in typical driving conditions. The YWCA, where I play pickleball on a ladies league, is just south of downtown Winston-Salem and approximately 14 miles away or about 20 minutes. It's also right near East of Texas, which is our favorite restaurant for Tex-Mex and brisket. So this is a drive I actually know, not one I just pulled off a map.

That hospital access is important for anyone whose job, appointments, or regular routine takes them into Winston-Salem. You may see Lexington in the address and eliminate this home before realizing the drive could still fit your everyday life. You also have Tanglewood Park in Clemmons about 15 minutes away. Tanglewood Park isn't just a patch of grass with a picnic table. You have an 1,100-acre park with trails, golf, an aquatic center, a dog park, and seasonal events. It's one of those places people actually build their weekends around.

Here's what I really like about this location. You aren't just choosing proximity to Winston-Salem and then ignoring everything Lexington has to offer. Uptown Lexington is approximately 15 minutes away. You have its small-town charm, local restaurants, shops, community events, and of course Lexington's barbecue identity. One place you've got to check out is Fox and Olive, which is my favorite home goods store in Lexington. Then in the other direction, Winston-Salem gives you the convenience and amenities of a larger metro area in approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

For something close and casual to eat, Nick's Old Fashioned Hamburger House in Welcome is a local name you'll hear again and again. It's known for its burgers and it was also on the Food Network not too long ago. You'll also find other options along Old US 52 corridor that includes Mexican food, country cooking, and everyday conveniences. Food Lion is approximately 7 miles away or about 11 minutes. Lowe's Foods is roughly 8 miles away or about 13 minutes. So you aren't giving up your routine errands to get the house and the lot.

If you travel, Piedmont Triad International Airport is approximately 40 minutes away. Charlotte Douglas International is about 1 hour and 10 minutes away. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is approximately an hour and 40 minutes away. Those are just planning estimates, so always check traffic before a flight. You should always check the drive at the time you would normally be making it.

So that's really the point of this location. You aren't choosing between Winston-Salem and Lexington. You're getting uptown Lexington small-town charm approximately 15 minutes away and Winston-Salem's larger metro amenities in approximately 20 to 25 minutes, as well as practical access to the Triad and the state's major airports.

Value and Taxes

The other part of the story is value. Here you're getting new construction that has never been lived in. You have a main-level primary suite, four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, nearly half an acre, a relatively flat backyard, a screened-in porch, a two-car garage, and no HOA. You also have Davidson County property taxes, which may compare favorably with Forsyth and Guilford Counties depending on the property. Your lender and closing attorney can help you calculate the exact impact for your situation.

The spaces in this home are also flexible. The dining room can remain a dining room, or it can become an office or a study. The garage can hold your cars, but it can also support workout equipment, a workbench, storage, or weekend projects. And the backyard isn't something you can only view through a window. It's relatively flat and usable. There's room to play fetch with the dog, kick the soccer ball, toss a football, do some gardening, or simply enjoy some outdoor space. So with this house, you get a lot of bang for your buck.

The Home at 377 Linn Allen Drive: What $469,900 Buys You

This is 377 Linn Allen Drive, and it was completed in 2025. It has never been lived in. You have 2,236 square feet, four bedrooms, and two and a half bathrooms. The primary suite is on the main level. The home was built by Atlantic Builders, and I've already helped clients build a custom version of the same home from the ground up in Clemmons. So I know what you're looking at and I also know which questions you should be asking.

As we approach the front door, we have a really nice covered porch, and it looks to be stamped concrete. So we could have a couple rocking chairs, a couple Adirondack chairs, could just rock and enjoy your adult beverage in the evening watching what's happening around in the neighborhood. When we walk into the foyer, we have really nice laminate wood hard surface flooring. Over to the right is a dedicated dining room space with a beautiful coffered ceiling and wainscoting. This could be used as a dedicated dining room space. Or it could be an office or a study. There could be French doors put across here to be able to enclose it if someone didn't want to have a formal dining room space.

Coming into the kitchen, we have beautiful granite countertops. We have a glass-top electric stove and oven. This house is on gas, or there is natural gas coming to this house because we do have a gas fireplace. So if someone wanted to have a gas stove, they could probably easily get this one switched out because we are in a crawl space. And that means when we're on a crawl space, it's a little bit easier to get to those lines that are under the house versus being in a slab.

It is an open concept home. We have this beautiful granite countertop, and then we have this really nice island. This island can fit about four bar stools. It also has a stainless steel undermount sink. We also have a dishwasher. We have a walk-in pantry. In the pantry, we have plenty of space to be able to put all your Costco items or items from Walmart, stack up on those canned goods.

This is the great room or the family room or living room. As I mentioned, it is a gas fireplace or gas log fireplace. We have nice bright light coming into this beautiful space. Also, this is a shiplap wall across the back here. There's already a ceiling fan installed as well as LED lighting, and that's throughout the house.

The Screened-In Porch and Backyard

Entering the covered screened-in porch, we have this type of concrete out here. Again, it's like a stamped concrete, but it's made to look like wood. But the nice thing is it's not wood, so therefore you wouldn't have to worry about ever doing anything to it. It's pretty much maintenance-free. And when you have a wooden deck, you have to sand it, you have to seal it, you have to stain it, all these things just to keep it looking in good condition.

We do have LED lighting out here on this covered screened-in porch and a ceiling fan. And boy oh boy, do we need that today because it is really a humid hot one here. One thing that I really love, this feature in this house with the screened-in porch, is that you have a patio out here. On the patio, this is where you could put your grill. So when you want to do any kind of grilling or whatever, that way the smoke is going up into the sky versus going up into the ceiling.

This house is a little shy of half an acre. It's about 0.46 acre, and you can see that it's a relatively flat backyard. You can see that pink survey stake that's back there, so that's where the property ends. As you can see, the houses aren't really on top of each other. You do have some space that's in between the house.

One thing that I think is really cool that the builder did is it's like a two-tone. So you have this dark charcoal gray color for the board and batten siding. See how it's vertical? So that's called a board and batten, but it's vinyl siding. Also in the garage, we have a service door, which is really nice because when you want to take your trash out, you don't need to have to open your garage door, you have a service door that's right there. And in the front of the house, the front elevation, it is a white, a painted white brick siding.

The Primary Suite: Two Walk-In Closets and a Showstopper Accent Wall

Walking into the primary bedroom, this right here is the showstopper. Isn't that just gorgeous? It's some kind of design that's a wood design where they basically made it look like a lattice where they put boards to make this design and then they painted it, and it's kind of like a dark charcoal gray color. So I could see someone's king-size bed going right here in between the two and having just that as your backdrop. You wouldn't even need a headboard if you didn't want one, but that's just such a nice feature and just a nice showstopper.

We have a tray ceiling in here with LED lighting and a ceiling fan already. So this wall was surprise number one, and I have another surprise for you. Surprise number two is we have a walk-in closet over here. Plenty of space in here in the walk-in closet. We already have our mounts for our flat-screen TV, which would go across from the king-size bed.

Surprise number three in the primary bedroom is another walk-in closet. How awesome is that? Plenty of space. We can keep it separated, his and hers closet. I know my husband would absolutely love that because I tend to take over the closet space, and if we each had our own closets, like my closet there and his closet over here, it would save a lot of frustration.

There's one more surprise in here because this is an ensuite. Walking into the primary bathroom, we have beautiful marble tile. And then we have two undermount sinks here, and it's a quartz countertop, full-length mirror. I love those clear glass for the lights there. That's the water closet there. And then over here we have a beautiful soaking tub, and next to the tub we have a walk-in shower. Isn't that just beautiful? One thing that's really awesome about this is that it's frameless, so therefore your eye just keeps going because there's nothing to stop it.

Upstairs Bedrooms: Massive Spaces and Walk-In Closets

Now we're up on the second floor. Walking into bedroom number two, this space up here is just massive. So you have this very big, large bedroom, and one thing that's really cool about this bedroom is that you have two closets. You have closet number one that's over here, and then you have closet number two that's over here. Look at all that space, all that storage.

So if you wanted, you could actually have this be almost like your media room or just an additional storage room, because a lot of the new construction homes here do not have basements and the attics are just way too hot to store anything worth anything. So this could be a media room/storage room. It could also be a guest bedroom, or you could just use it as a regular bedroom.

Walking across the hall here, we do have a full bath over here, which I'm going to show you in just a minute. But let's go check out these other bedrooms here. Now this second bedroom on the second floor feels a lot like the last bedroom I just showed you. This is facing out towards the front of the house, and also we have a walk-in closet. Isn't that just awesome? So even if you have older kids, adult kids who are not quite ready to fly the nest yet or leave the nest, you have a lot of space up here where they could be comfortable for several months before moving out.

Then you have another guest bedroom over here. This is the smaller of the three bedrooms up here, and that's just a regular-sized closet. There's a full bathroom on the second floor. Walking into this bathroom, we have the same flooring as downstairs in the primary bathroom. We have dual vanity sinks with undermount. And then we also have a tub/shower combination.

The Honest Trade-Off: Driving vs Walkability

Now let's talk about the honest trade-off. This is not downtown Winston-Salem. If you want to walk out your front door and immediately be at a coffee shop, restaurant, or brewery, this is not going to be that lifestyle. You will be driving. So the real question is whether those drives are reasonable for your routine and whether the house, lot, taxes, and no HOA freedom are worth that trade-off to you.

And that's exactly the conversation I have with buyers. The question isn't simply, is Lexington good? Because that's too broad to be useful. The better question is, does this specific Lexington location work for the places I actually go?

Which Buyers Should Consider This Location

I lived on the southern end of Lexington for four years and eventually that location just felt too far from Winston-Salem for us and that's ultimately why we moved. But this part of Lexington is different. If a house in this location had been available when we were looking, we would have bought it. That's why I don't want you to dismiss this home simply because the address says Lexington. The better question is whether this specific location works for the places you actually go.

Choose this northern Lexington location if:

  • You want new construction with a main-level primary suite and no HOA.
  • You need practical access to Winston-Salem (20-25 minutes downtown, under 30 minutes to both major hospitals) but also want uptown Lexington's small-town charm 15 minutes away.
  • You value more house, more land, and potentially lower Davidson County taxes over walkability to coffee shops and breweries.
  • You're comfortable driving for most activities but want those drives to be reasonable for your actual routine.
  • You want a relatively flat, usable backyard and flexible spaces (dining room can be an office, massive upstairs bedroom can be media room or storage).

This location may not work if:

  • You want to walk out your front door and immediately be at a coffee shop, restaurant, or brewery.
  • You're not willing to drive for most activities.
  • You need to be inside Winston-Salem city limits for work, lifestyle, or personal preference.
